Numbers and letters

Skylar has been learning more about numbers at school lately.  They've been focusing on both counting to larger numbers and also writing their numbers.  The last few days at home, Skylar has been asking to practice her numbers.  She asks me to write them out and then she writes them on her paper.  (she can do 1-20 on her own and then she has trouble after that)  Here is her paper from today.

she also was practicing her letters.

puppet hands

I caught Skylar using her hands as puppets today.  It was quite funny to watch.  This was the best video Icould get.  Of course once she noticed that I was taping, she stopped for the most part.

Sprinkler fun in October???

Yep that's right, October 7th and we were out playing in the sprinkler.  It was 85 degrees and the girls were begging for me to set up their pool.  I have already deflated it and put it away thinking there was no way we would need it again.  I told them I would instead put the sprinkler out.  They were happy, for about 10 minutes.  Then the wind picked up and they got cold.  I'm glad I only got the sprinkler out!!  lol.

Wilson's Apple Orchard

After swim lessons today I decided to take the girls to Wilsons Apple Orchard here in Iowa City.  There is no cost to get in or walk around, only if you buy anything.  It was crowded, but not too bad.  We took a ride on Bessie, the tractor.  We walked around, but didn't see any apples on the trees.  I'm sure if we went further in we could have found some, but it was hot and very hilly.  They girls were getting tired and so was I.  We just went into the store and got some freshly picked apples from the barrels.

Skylar can swim!!

Tonight I took the girls to family swim night by myself because John has a fumigation all weekend.  We went into the big pool for a while and then I let them swim in the baby section.  I get a bit nervous with both of them by myself in the big pool.  I made them wear their floaties in the big pool, well I made Larissa keep hers on and did eventually let Skylar take hers off, but she had to stay right next to me.  Skylar can reach everywhere in that pool, so I feel more confident with her.  Larissa can only touch right near the wall and it scares me when she doesn't have the floaties on and I'm by myself.  What if I had to grab Skylar and Larissa slipped under???  So after we swam for a bit in the big pool we went into the little pool.  I just sat on the side and watched.  Skylar was actually swimming on her own.  She felt more confident with her goggles on and in the baby pool because she knows she can put her hand down.  She was swimming without putting her hand on the bottom though.  I am so proud of her.

Here are some pictures of them playing.

update

Not much is going on this week.  We were in Chicago this past weekend so john could go to the Bears game.  Larissa ended up with a random fever on Saturday.  She never had any other symptoms besides a loss of appetite.  She was fine Sunday.  On Tuesday Skylar came home from school with a random fever, no other symptoms.  She was fine Wednesday morning so I sent her off to school.  The girls had a field trip to Wilson's Apple Orchard.  She did just fine on the field trip, but came home with a low grade fever.  She spent the rest of the afternoon in her room.  Her fever was gone by last night, but I kept her home from school today to let her rest.  She is still fever free, her appetite is back, and she wants to go back to school.  I will gladly send them both tomorrow (they've been fighting non stop today).

Skylar is getting very excited for her birthday.  I sent out the invitations and we will see how many kids will actually come.  This is her first ever kid party and I'm a bit nervous that no one will come.  Our family party is the same day so hopefully she won't care if only 1 or 2 kids come.  Skylar has decided on a My Little Pony Party, and wants stars and balloons also.  I can do that!!  They are also getting excited about Halloween.  As of today, they both want to be princesses.  That has changed several times though.  She has also said she wanted to be a lady bug, ghost or unicorn.  I just happen to have all those costumes already, so she can choose on that morning if she wants to.  Larissa just says what ever Skylar wants.  They can both be a princess or a lady bug, but if they choose anything else they will have to be something different from the other one.

must run, Skylar is awake and wants to play Candy Land again.
