The last Friday of every month our mall sponsors a family fun night. Between 5-8pm, the ice rink, childrens Museum and carousel are free of charge. Some of the restaurants also have deals. So on these fridays, John gets home early and takes the girls to the mall before 5. They go straight to the Museum because that is the busiest place. they spend about an hour there and I meet up with them for dinner. We usually do Chic-Fil-A because the kids eat free with an adult meal. The museum usually has some sort of special on family fun nights. Tonight it was games. They had a life size Chutes and Ladders set up and the kids got to be the people. They thought it was great. They also got to make their own board games.
Then after dinner we rode the carousel.
and then we had ice cream
The girls had a wonderful night. They always look forward to these family fun nights. So do we.

Easter Basket cookies
I found this idea on Pinterest. Mine didn't turn out exactly like the picture, but I think they came out well. I also did not use cocunut like the recipe called for because none of us like coconut. Instead I put sprinkles on the frosting to simulate grass.
They were actually quite easy to make. I hope they taste as yummy as they look.

coloring eggs
Tonight we colored our Easter eggs. We got some coloring kits the last time we went to Build-A-Bear. They came with glitter and stickers. The girlshad a blast. I even found them some scissor like things to use to handle the eggs. They were easy for them to use.
super heros
The girls have been big into dress up again lately. As with everything, they go in spurts with their interests. About every 3 weeks or so they get back into dress up. Their current obsession is being super heros.

goofballs
tonight the girls decided to play swimming. They put on some old gymnastics outfits pretending they are swim suits. They went to a hotel and are swimming all over the house. Then they put on their sun hats to go down to the beach. They really are a couple of goofballs with excellent imagination.
they also got to enjoy some yummy sundaes for dessert tonight for behaving well today.

Proud of Skylar
I had Skylar's school conference last week. They take a test called the Dibels. At the begining of the year they tested the kindergartners on 2 of the categories.
First sound fluency: she scored a 32 in the fall and a a 58 now. The bench mark is 30.
Letter naming fluency: she scored a 26 in the fall and a 40 now. The benck mark is 27
Phoneme segmentation: not tested in the fall, 68 now. Bench mark is 20 (this is a really hard one for most kindergartners but she breezed through it.She actually got the highest score in her class)
Nonsense word fluency: not tested in the fall, 40 now. Bench mark is 17. This is also a hard one for most but she did really well,
Over all she scored a 206. Bench mark for the whole test was 122 so she is well above where she needs to be.
She also participated in the WIN program where she got to go to the computer lab once a week and write a story. She wrote a story about her dog, and also one about herself. They first wrote their story on paper and then they typed it on the computer themselves. They were left on their own unless they specifically asked for help spelling a word.

Skylar is really excelling in her reading abilities also. She is reading level one reading books with ease, and some level 2. When we drive places she can read almost every sign. She reads the grocery list for the store. She likes to write lists and little notes that she leaves all over the house. Tonight she was doing her homework and one of her pages was a picture find. One of the pictures was a microphone. She read the word and told me, mom, in the word elephant it sounds like there is an F but there isn't. it's really a PH, just like in microphone. see?
