Memorial Day fun

This weekend my sister and her family came to visit.  Today we hit up the outlets for some great deals.   Oshkosh had swim suits for $10.  These were normally $40 swim suits.  Each girl got 2 suits, one bikini and one tankini.  They each also got a pair of flip flops.  Then I found some tanks for Skylar on clearance and they each got to pick an outfit.  Skylar picked a sun dress and Larissa picked a short and tank outfit.  When we got back from lunch the girls tried on their bikini's and went out in the pool.

summertime fun

It was quite warm today so we spent a lot of time outside in the water.  First we played in our kiddie pool.

they said this was their cool tub, because the water was too cold to be a hot tub.

Then after we dropped off some mail to John at his funigation, we went to the North Liberty Rec Center.

Rissy tripped getting out of the pool and scrapped her knee and her hand.  Didn't stop her from going back in the water once it stopped bleeding.

sunning herself while waiting for Rissy to be able to go back in the water

According to Skylar is was a terrific day.  Larissa said she had a great day too, despite her scrapes.  She still wont grip anything with her one hand because there is a scrape down her palm.  She just holds it out.

word to the wise

35 year old clumsy woman in flip flops should NOT do an underdog to a child on a swing.  For the second time in 2 days, my flip flops failed me.  The first time I was unloading groceriesand my shoe caught on the step.  I flew forward and hit the basement door then slid across the kitchen floor.  I got a pretty nasty bruise on my shin, but I was fine.  The next day I took the girls to the park.  They of course wanted to swing.  Skylar can push herself but they were hving fun doing underdogs.  I decided to join in the fun and gave Skylar an underdog.  Big mistake.  Big.  Huge.  I hit the divit under the swing and my flip flop got caught in the wood chips.  I flew forward again, landing on my knee and then falling forward.  As I hit the ground my wrist jammed into my rib cage.  I felt instant pain, more pain than I've felt in a LONG time.  i stood up still in incredible pain.  Skylar was really worried.  Larissa didn't see any of it and just wanted me to push her higher (she was facing the other way)  I somehow kept my composure, convinced the girls that we had to leave and went home.  I didnt break down crying until we got home and the girls went downstairs.  I'm not 100% sure what I did, but I either bruised or cracked a rib.  Since I coould still breathe fine, I didn't feel anything poking and there's really nothing they can do for a bruised or cracked rib, I just took some iboprofin, got an ice pack and sat down.  Based on the way I'm feeling, and what I read, I think I just bruised it, meaning my rib moved on impact causing the tendons and muscles to stretch.  I am pretty sore, and things like getting up off the couch, bending over, laughing, coughing and twisting hurt pretty badly.  Touching the affected rib is also very tender.  The first few days were pretty uncomfortable, but now I can sit certain ways and not have any pain at all (until I move, ha ha)  I have even found ways to sleep without pain, which is hard because I sleep on my stomach.

So I learned a lesson.  No more underdogs, and maybe no more flip flops.  I do love my flip flops though.

Baby Alive

As a reward for listening so well today, the girls got to feed baby alive after we ate our dinner tonight.  It's one of their favorite activities, but it makes such a mess.  They have some issues getting the food into her mouth and then I have to clean her up before the girls can chage her diaper.  They are always surprised when she poops.  lol.  Its pretty funny.

Last day of preschool

today was their last day.  It was bittersweet.  They wanted to match their outfits, but it was hard.  They picked the shirts out ok, but had issues agreeing on pants to wear.  They finally decided on matching red tank tops with denim skirts (that were similar but not exact matches)  They had a good time at school.  Skylar's class got to play out in the playground TWICE (she was very excited about this) and they went across the street to Jon's for ice cream.  Larissa's class made dirt and worms (very exciting) and got to play outside too.  She was quite dirty when I went to get her but she was having fun.

After i picked them up and we ate lunch, the girls got to ride their new Barbie Power Wheels Jeep.  Boy did they have fun.  They have been playing in it without a battery for a week now.  Now that it moves, it's definately a favorite toy.  They both need some serious driving lessons though.

Skylar's Graduation

Tonight was Skylar's graduation from preschool.  First the kids walked in and then they all sang a few songs.  Both classes got up there and sang 3 songs, then the younger class sat down and the older class sat in the chairs on stage.  They then got their diplomas (or as Skylar said, baflomas)  After the graduating class sang, We're Off to Kindergarten.  It was really cute.  After that the kids got to go down and get cupcakes and juice.  We then let Skylar choose dinner.  She picked the Chinese Buffet.  (we even saw one of her classmates there)  Anyway, it was a fun night.  Skylar was so proud.  Larissa actually sang the songs (well, her lips kind of moved, not sure if she was making any noise) and did the motions.  I am going to try to upload all the videos.  I hope they aren't too long.  The pictures didn't come out too well, I think it was the lighting in the church.
